2010 February Guides Newsletter
Hook Norton Guides – Newsletter February 2010

It has been a busy term this Christmas for the 1st Hook Norton Guides, with the festive activities and trips that were organised to make sure everyone was excited and prepared for Christmas.

Val Stratford very kindly came along to our meeting to make Christmas cards with the guides – they folded coloured paper and made Christmas trees on them to give to their family.

As one of our main community services, we started the festive season with carol singing for the elderly at Beechaven in Chipping Norton and then went down to the Chipping Norton hospital to sing again. It was one short hour of singing that meant so much to all of them.

Our annual trip at Christmas time is going to the Mirror tent at the Cowley, in Oxford.  This year the show that was on was Beauty and the Beast. In total we took up 50 seats which were made up of the guides and their families. The theatre show was one of the best that we have seen. It was full of excitement and signing and dancing. However still the best part of the production is the interval where it’s sweet crêpes all round!

The last meeting of the term was organised by the current Baden Powell girls, they arranged for a dress up meeting in pyjamas with games and party food. The final part of the meeting was a time to celebrate the previous Baden Powell badge achievers: Claire, Rosi and Holly.  The three girls were invited back to receive their badges and certificates in a ceremony in front of the guides and witnessed by Diana Barbar who assisted the girls throughout their challenges.

With such a great ending to the year we are looking forward to what 2010 will bring to our unit in the centenary year. Finally from all of the guides we wish everyone a Happy New Year.
