Please help your parish/town council to celebrate your vibrant rural community and Oxfordshire Rural Community Council’s (ORCC’s) 90th Birthday!
Don’t let your community miss an opportunity to be included in a unique county book
We are warmly inviting your community, through the Parish/Town Council, to join us in 2010 to celebrate 90 years of ORCC work for, and with, strong vibrant rural communities in Oxfordshire.
We want to use the occasion to highlight good examples of local community initiatives. So we have written to your Parish/Town Council (letter dated 27 January) asking them to tell us about at least one feature of your community, which makes a special or significant contribution to the quality of community life. This could be a community-run activity, service, facility or other feature or a particular community champion who stands out because they are making something (or lots of things!) happen. ORCC aims to draw together entries received to produce a special commemorative 90th Birthday publication. Every contributing community will receive a free copy and copies will also be sent out widely both within the county and beyond.
The publication will be a wonderful way of congratulating Oxfordshire’s market towns, villages and hamlets on the enterprising local efforts that go to make – and keep - thriving, caring rural communities. It will also be a great way for community members to get new ideas for projects or approaches by seeing what others are doing.
If you are interested in this initiative and would like to help, get in touch with your Parish/Town Clerk as soon as possible. Entries must be sent to ORCC by 31 March 2010 at the latest. For further information, contact Jayne Bullock at ORCC: Tel 01865 883488 E-mail:

The Low Carbon Hook Norton Group in the village have now set up a company, which is an Industrial and Provident Society. This company is Hook Norton Low Carbon Ltd. The aim of the company is to promote energy saving within our community by direct and indirect means. At a small level, this means we can negotiate group discounts on energy saving technologies, offer special rates for renewable electricity and spread the word on energy saving measures to the local community. On a larger scale we may attract funding for more ambitious ideas such as locally driven house refurbishments, electric pool cars for the village, a wind farm, local food growing groups, the possibilities are endless.
