FRIENDS OF HOOK NORTON
COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Update – 21 January 2012
In December the OCC Cabinet ratified their decision to cut library services in Oxfordshire, with a concession that the hardest hit, including Hook Norton, would lose half their staffing, rather than two thirds. This cut will be phased in over three years, and the plan is for volunteers to be used to maintain the libraries’ opening hours.
The Friends of Hook Norton Community Library are now actively engaged in investigating all possible ways forward for our library. However, as yet we have no firm guidance from the Library Service about the exact time scale of the cuts, the role of volunteers or the training to be given. So at present we are continuing with our normal fundraising activities and waiting to hear more detailed information.
The library remains open as usual and we would like to encourage everyone to use it to show their support. The Friends would also love to hear from anyone who feels they might like to volunteer or help us in any other way to keep the library running in the long term.
If you feel you can help, please contact one of the committee members listed below or give your name to Janet, our Library Manager.
